Canada and Quebec are failing the Inuit of Nunavik
Public services in Nunavik are severely underfunded and underdelivered.
Laws adopted in Quebec and Ottawa ignore the social, geographical, and cultural realities of Nunavik.
Communities are facing deep trauma from decades of destructive colonialism and institutional discrimination, residential and day schools, forced sedentarization and relocation programs, slaughter of sled dogs, removal of Inuit children from their communities, and ongoing assaults on land, tradition, and way of life.
We bear a collective responsibility for this failure.
Together we can and must work together to restore and protect fundamental Inuit rights in Nunavik.
The NCLA supports a number of engines for change:
Gathering and studying information on systemic issues in Nunavik via our Landwatch Observatory
Increasing public visibility through direct action and other campaigns
Educating and raising awareness through publications and communications
Advocating for legislative and policy change
Initiating and intervening in court actions to protect and promote Inuit rights
Creating and promoting local employment, charitable, cultural and artistic initiatives
