nunavik inuit Face Persistent employment barriers and discrimination
The first language of the Inuit people is Inuktitut. While many Inuit are bilingual in English, significantly fewer speak French. Measures such as Bill 21 have thus created substantial obstacles to Inuit employment. This highlights the lack of cooperation by the levels of government and reinforces the Inuit sense of systemic, operationalized discrimination within society.
Inequities between non-Inuit and Inuit employees in Nunavik have also long been criticized, as non-Inuit individuals often receive benefits (annual trips, accommodation , moving costs, etc.) worth nearly four times more than those of their Inuit colleagues.
